Boston Tax on Drivers?

Last week on WGBH, both Governor Maura Healey and Mayor Michelle Wu confirmed their renewed efforts to explore a Traffic Congestion Pricing "Drivers' Tax" for the city of Boston. Both pointed to New York City as a model, but by any measure the program has not been as successful as they suggest.  “Congestion pricing would only discourage even more people from coming into Boston,” said Amy Carnevale, chairwoman of the Massachusetts Republican Party. She continued, "Boston already has the highest office vacancy in the Northeast at 24%. Charging commuters $9 a day in taxes is not going to attract any new businesses or residents." She asked, "How many more of our current businesses and residents can we afford to lose?"
