The Traveling School of Fish gets new fins for year four in a collaboration between the Town of Franklin, local schools, and a community art initiative led by Franklin artist Amy Adams. Inspired by and honoring the original School of Fish installation created by the Kabat family for the opening of the Franklin Sculpture Park in 2012.
The evolution now includes an annual update while “traveling” to new schools, celebrating public art and community pride.

Principal of Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School Dana Walsh, has been a major supporter for the annual collaboration, donating the carved wooden fish for this installation. With shop instruction led by Jeremy Barstow, students shared their process in creating this year’s fish to handoff to the elementary school.
Principal Evan Chelman of Washington Street School grades 3-5, expressed gratitude for the young artists and teachers whose creativity transformed each fish into vibrant works of art with joyful energy. Reflecting on the project's impact, Adams shared, “It is important for us to celebrate and encourage our children to pour love back into the place we live.”
A highlight of the event was microphone maestro Jamele Adams who brought fun, laughter and an intense game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to the crowd. The Traveling School of Fish installation was welcomed by a large crowd of supportive teachers, residents and town officials celebrating the students of both schools and is expected to stay up for the next year.
