Frederick Robert Steeves (Pete), Age 89, of Falmouth and previously
of Franklin, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at his
home on July 14, 2026.
He was the beloved husband of
Dorothy (Dot) Steeves whom he cherished in a story-like 65-year marriage
together. Pete was born on January 6, 1937, in Medford, MA to the
late Frederick and Geraldine Steeves.
Pete and Dot
settled in Franklin, MA, where they raised 6 children – Pete (Nancy)
Steeves of Pepperell; Fred (Kippy) of Falmouth; Jen (Dale) of
Wrentham; Joe (Monica) of Hingham; Amy (Paul) of Falmouth; Pat of
Ayer. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family
which grew to 15 grandchildren – Kelsey (Andy), Kelley (TJ), Charlotte
(Andres), Meghan (Billy), Lilly (Evan) , Joe (Kat), Molly (Jake), Katie,
Peter, Jack, Grace, Ryan, Abbey, Patrick, Anastasia; as well as 2
Great Grandchildren – William and Lily. Pete is pre-deceased by his 4
late siblings - Anne Toran (formally of Falmouth), Eileen Mello
(formally of Falmouth), Mary Lou MacLeod (formally of Falmouth), Mona
Leighton (formally of Center Barnstead, NH). There wasn’t a day that
went by where he didn’t say how blessed and proud he was to have such a
wonderful family centered on faith, happiness, and gratitude.
Pete
made an immediate and lasting impression on those that knew him over
the years. From his extended family to his friends in Franklin,
Falmouth, and beyond to his faith community and to the many caregivers
that helped him as his body aged and got tired, everybody loved Pete and
he loved them. You might find Pete over the years with family and
friends at home, maybe in front of the fireplace with appetizers on the
table and a glass of wine to toast many of life’s happy occasions –
holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, weddings, births, or
simply enjoying time with those he loved. Over the years while raising
his family in Franklin, you might find him on Friday night playing
cards with his many friends, holding court at BC football tailgates, and
welcoming people with open arms into his home. Pete loved his
classical music and you might have heard Mozart, Bach, or Beethoven
playing in the background. And in recent years you might have found
him spending time on the beaches of Falmouth, having coffee at Nobska
Lighthouse first thing in the morning, collecting magnets, and taking
care of the poor and others in need by donating his time and donations
to Meals on Wheels, Saint Vincent DePaul, teaching CCD, helping with
Parish accounting, and reaching out to those in need with his generous
heart.
Pete was a graduate from Watertown High School
(1954), Boston College (1958 – BS Accounting), and also received his
Masters in Business from Boston College. He had a long and successful
tax advisory business in Franklin, taught accounting at Nichols College
in Dudley, and was a longtime volunteer at Saint Mary’s Church,
Franklin, MA where he served on many ministries. The foundations of
his life were family, faith, gratitude, and fun.
