Fortuitously timed for a perfect fall day, the Conservation Commission’s belated Earth Day cleanup of the DelCarte Conservation area attracted dozens of participants Saturday morning. Collectively they gathered several bags of litter and debris.

According to ConComm Chair, William Batchelor, the event was organized and Chaired by Commissioner Patrick Gallagher, Vice Chair Andrew Mazzuchelli. Assisting was Becca Solomon (new Conservation Agent) and Tyler Paslaski (Conservation Office) as well as Mazzuchelli's wife Amelia. While overall the total numbers of participants were down compared to previous years, “the number of young people remained significant,” said Batchelor.

And by a number of measures it was very successful.

“The booth and charted information was the best we have ever produced [and] logistics developed by the leadership were flawless,” he said.
Sponsors of the even included Franklin Starbucks and Big Y Supermarket, which provided refreshments and support. Franklin DPW worked to collect the trash and set up tables, etc.

“We are proud of the effort to keep the DelCarte Recreation area one of Franklin’s Crown Jewels,” Batchelor added.
