Above, the Town Council hosted a “pinning ceremony” formally welcoming in (and swearing in) four new Franklin Police. Chief Thomas Lynch introduced the four new hires, with a brief biographical sketch of each, and also noted that a fifth new hire wasn’t able to attend due to a conflict. The new hires introduced were Derek Mackey, Tyler Brabham, Joseph Burchill, Michael Demers, and Conor Desmond.

Police Retirement Concern

A bulletin sent out on Valentine’s Day by the Massachusetts Police Association expressed concern because when Governor Baker signed the Covid Relief Bill w

amended it to say that it would be 90 days following the lifting of the health emergency or 12/2022 whichever comes first. This would mean that earnings and 1200 hour limit would return at the earliest some time mid year and impact the remainder of the year for retirees.

Jim Machado at MPA vowed to push the legislature to override the amendment and lift restrictions for all of 2022 “as intended in the original bill.”
