According to the website of the Playscripts, the publisher of dozens of dramatic works by playwright Alan Haehnel, Cave Dream focuses on five spelunkers who find themselves trapped in an invisible cage within a cavern. Suddenly, mysterious creatures emerge from the rocks and require the captors to state one absolute truth in order to free themselves and make it out alive. With each wrong answer, the invisible cage shrinks. Can the prisoners pull it off without killing each other first?

Again, according to the website, Haehnel teaches high school English and Theater at Hanover High School in Hanover, New Hampshire. He has been involved in theater since college as an actor, director, and writer.

His credits include numerous published plays and monologues that have been performed worldwide, the Vermont Playwright's Award in 1993, and several Vermont State Championships for his original one-acts entered in the Vermont One-Act Play Festivals.

Cave Dreams will be performed by the Franklin High School Theatre Company Mar 18, 2022, 7:00 PM. General Admission is $10.00. The play runs about 1 hour, with no intermission (An audience talk back will be provided at the end of the show).

Tickets are available online.

Cave Dream is the FHS entry in this season’s Massachusetts High School Drama Festival competition, a competitive program that typically includes more than 100 one-act plays produced by member high schools. The competition is organized across three levels – preliminary, semi-final and State Finals. Student excellence in acting and technical design is recognized at each level. Of the plays that enter the festival, fourteen will be selected as State Finalists, of which three will be named winners. Two schools chosen from the State Finalists will go on to represent Massachusetts in the New England Drama Festival, the regional showcase of secondary school theatre.
