Franklin's Bobby Santos III Has Win on Friday

It happened in South Boston – not the one in Massachusetts but the South Boston in Virginia where motorsport is king.

Franklin-born and Franklin-raised Bobby Santos III added another laurel to his long racing career to beat out a crowed field in the Must-See Racing Sprint Car Series. According to press reports it was a fairly spectacular win where he went from fourth position to first in just two action-packed laps, beating the former leader, Jacob Dolinar by less than 9 seconds. He has won four times with the winged 410 pavement sprint car tour.

The cars that followed Santos to the checkered flag driven respectively by Dolinar and Joe Liguori actually touched wheels, sending the latter’s vehicle into a wall, demolishing it.

Santos is a 2004 Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School graduate and the grandson of Bobby Santos, a former modified racer. His sister, Erica Santos, is also a racecar driver.

South Boston is located midway along the state border with North Carolina.
