Odds Don’t Faze Roy Challenger, Bailey

Charles “Chuck” Bailey III is unfazed by the uphill battle he faces against long-time incumbent State Rep. Jeff Roy, who just added another $16,000 to his war chest last week.

Chuck says his military training and years as a paramedic – even coming out of “retirement” to serve again during COVID – has equipped him for tough fights. And, he says, the issues favor him.

“Jeff Roy is proud of his record, but that record has hurt taxpayers and undermined the ability of middle income and lower income people to even survive the coming winter,” he says.
Drawing the comparison to the comic literary figure of Don Quixote, Bailey says Roy has been “chasing windmills” instead of focusing on the issues that ensure the prosperity – and sometimes even the survival – of people in Franklin and Medway.

“I am focused on practical solutions and the needs of everyday people, not abstract political platforms,” he says.

With wife Annamaria, the daughter of legal immigrants, he stresses, Chuck has raised a son and daughter, both products of Franklin public schools and both pursuing ambitious career goals. But for them, finding a home in Massachusetts has been a struggle. “The fact of the matter is that we have a crisis of affordability in this state – only those making top salaries can afford to live here any longer – and a lot of the problems start with policies made on Beacon Hill,” he said.

And, regarding the tens of thousands of dollars that his opponent has at the ready? “Money can’t buy love,” says Chuck. “Many people are quietly dissatisfied with the status quo and with Jeff Roy; I get zero push back because I think people want a competitive race and want to feel they can really be heard, not just getting lip service.

With support from his friends and colleagues, especially those from the military, Bailey is holding an awareness and fundraising event for his campaign next Saturday, Oct. 15. The “Ruck for Chuck” will be a fast-paced hike from the VFW to the war memorials at Church Square and back, with a loaded “rucksack” on each participant to make it a bit more challenging.

“We’ll showcase support and commitment to the community through that event,” said Bailey.
