MEDWAY: Alfred W. Champeau

Alfred W. Champeau, 87, of Medway, MA passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 16, 2026. He was the beloved husband for 34 years of the late Lillian C. (Baird) Champeau. He was born in Woonsocket, RI on February 26, 1939, the son of the late Ronald D. and Irene (Levesque) Champeau. He was the brother of Angele LeBlanc and her late husband, Henry of Dayville, CT, Grace Desilets of Burrillville, RI, and the late Vivian Berard and her husband Roger of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his stepsons Billy Higgins of Millville, MA, and Bobby Higgins and his wife Patricia of Medway, MA and grandchildren Emily, Kaylie, Dylan and Nester, Daniel, Alicia, June Rose, and great-grandchildren.

Alfred was a resident of Medway for over 40 years formerly of Bellingham and Woonsocket. He worked as a truck driver for Rosenfeld Concrete for 34 years until retiring and also had worked for the Medway School System for 15 years.

He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War Era attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the Cert of Achievement MVD & MB MKM Rifle MKM SGM Parachutist Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter: Carbine, Expert: M-14 Rifle, AFEM, Sharpshooter Rifle. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 208 Norwood, VFW Medway Post 1526, American Legion Sharon Post, All State District 5 Commander of VFW Norfolk County President of Chapter 9, and 173rd Air Borne Association.

He enjoyed his cottage at Lake Seymour, Morgan, CT, fishing and racing motorcycles. Alfred will be greatly missed.

Funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 20th at 8:45AM from Cartier’s Funeral Home, 151 So. Main St. (Rte. 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Joseph Church, l51 Village St., Medway, MA. Burial will follow at Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket, RI. Visiting hours are on Tuesday, May 19th from 5PM to 7PM at the funeral home.
