Virginia Clark Hobbs, 97

Virginia Clark Hobbs passed away on March 18, 2023 at the age of 97.

Born April 4, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Dora (Woodward) Clark of Franklin. On August 29, 1947, Virginia married her husband, the late Chester Walker Hobbs.

Virginia attended the Franklin Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1943, from the old Davis Thayer School. She continued her schooling at the New England Baptist School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She worked at the New England Baptist until she became a full-time mother. In 1964, she worked as an RN at Framingham Union Hospital (MetroWest), where she was an RN Medical Surgeon and later a Supervisor. She fully retired in 1990 and moved to Vermont to live with her oldest daughter in 2017.

Virginia loved the ocean and continued to go to the Cape up and through her 96th birthday. She was a member of the Franklin Federated Church where she was a member of numerous groups, including the Alden Club.

She was also a member of the Norfolk Audubon Society. She enjoyed birdwatching and travelled to the Europe several times, in addition, to birding throughout the US. She reached 600 American Birds out of 900.

Having a sense of humor, her favorite holiday was April Fools!

Virginia leaves behind her three grown children, Judith Hobbs of White River Junction, VT, Nancy Hobbs Stanhope and her husband Robert of Hanover, NH, her son, David Clark Hobbs and his wife Cheryl of Franklin, MA.

She also leaves behind her three grandchildren, David Christopher Stanhope and his wife Doris of Haverhill, NH, Kristine Anne Hobbs Desmarais and her husband Brian of Franklin, MA and Jennifer Marie Hobbs Spiess and her husband Ryan of Medway, MA. Virginia has five great-grandchildren, Kylie Anne and Kendall Arleen Desmarais, as well as, Fletcher Harry, McKenna Katherine and (on the way) Archer Eric Spiess. She was the sister of the late Kenneth Clark of Norwood, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, April 2 from Noon-1 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will take place privately at the Union Street Cemetery in Franklin.

In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Massachusetts Audubon Society – Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, 108 North St., Norfolk, MA 02056.
