While perhaps not a familiar name to most Franklin residents, Ojy Okpe is very well known in Africa and in the fashion and media worlds internationally.
According to Ojy Okpe’s post, son Ozurum Okpe, has started school at Dean College after graduating from Montverde Academy, a Florida prep school, in May, and she was on hand to see him settled in on campus.
Okpe (her full name is Ojinika Anne Okpe) is a Nigerian model, film producer and TV anchor on Arise News. She also hosts What's Trending with Ojy Okpe and co-anchors the Good Morning Show. Originally from Delta State, she completed her primary and secondary education in Lagos State and then earned a Bachelor's degree in Communication and a minor in Film Production from St John’s University, New York. She also studied Film Production at the New York Film Academy.
She was “discovered” by a South African talent scout and participated in the Mnet Face of Africa, making it to the finals of the competition in Ghana. She worked in both South Africa and New York as a model and has been seen in magazines such as Elle, Cosmopolitan, Essence, Drum and Vogue. She has worked for many leading fashion houses and also began reporting on the field.
Arise News, for which she has worked, is a London-based world news channel with studios in New York City, London, Johannesburg, Abuja and Lagos. The channel features African, US and European content.
