Inaugural Meeting for Friends of Franklin Conservation on Sunday

Breeka Li Goodlander, the town’s conservation agent, in coordination with the Conservation Commission, is launching informal meet and greet from 10a-12p this Sunday at the DelCarte Conservation Area on Pleasant Street, to launch Friends of Franklin Conservation. Goodlander stresses that unlike “Friends” groups affiliated with the Library and Historical Commission, FFC is not a separate non-profit and has no plans to raise money.

“This grew out of one of the goals of our open space plan,” Goodlander explained. The focus is on outreach and steward ship and she is hopeful more volunteers might emerge from the process to help with everything from pursuing grants to rooting out invasive species and implementing planting programs.

A complementary initiative is called iNaturalist, and solicits help from citizens, using an app, to spot and identify species in the town. They can take an image and it downloads to our database of species,” Goodlander explained.
