Mass Fiscal GIves Thumbs Down to Migrant Mess at Logan

The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance released the following statement after news broke Thursday morning that more migrants are sleeping in Terminal E at Logan Airport. The last time this happened, the Healey Administration came under scrutiny and pressure to move migrants out of Logan Airport and solved the issue by closing a heavily used youth recreational center in Roxbury to house the new arrivals.

“Logan airport should be a secure location for people to travel, not a place for the Healey administration to use as temporary migrant housing. The Governor may be holding on to the wishful thinking that the migrant situation is under control, but it’s not. Legislative leaders and our Governor refuse to reform the policies that make Massachusetts a migrant magnet and instead throw taxpayer money at the problem,” stated Paul Diego Craney, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.

“Last week, we learned the state is paying $64 per day, per migrant, for meals. For a family of four, that is $256 a day. Annually, it will cost taxpayers $92,000 for meals for that family. These meals come at a very high cost to the taxpayers and are in addition to the nearly $3 million dollars a day the Healey administration spends on the right to shelter housing. That doesn’t account for other expenses associated with the growing problem that the administration hasn’t been forthcoming about. The Healey administration and legislative leaders’ response to the migrant crisis has been hypocritical and inadequate and today’s news of migrants sleeping on the floor at Logan Airport is just another reminder of ... failed policies on full display,” continued Craney.
