GOT FILM (or Video!), Asks Historical Museum?

The Franklin Historical Commission, charged with operating the Franklin Historical Museum, is looking for a few good images -- or maybe a lot more good images.

Currently, the museum is preparing  a one-day program for April 20, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Franklin elementary students who went to Boston and successfully lobbied the legislature to make the Ladybug, the state insect.  Many of the students wore homemade lady bug outfits.  "This was big news, covered by the Boston TV stations at the time," explained Commission Chair Alan Earls. "Unfortunately, few of those broadcasts were retained because of the bulk and cost of storage media at the time," and none of our ladybug kids made the cut," he continued.

"We are hopeful that some family in town may have snapshots or home movie clips of some of the children or their teacher, Palma Johnson, that we can share with the public next month and beyond," he added.

The museum also has a popular seasonal exhibit of wedding dresses from local brides. To supplement the display of dresses, the museum is hoping to locate films or videos of some local weddings from past decades.

"Although the museum can't  accept all donations due to space limitations, we are always interested in hearing from residents with images, documents, or other items of historical importance," Earls added.
