According to the Boston Herald, Sean Michael Murphy, one of the four Democrat candidates for Governor's Council, District 2, which includes Franklin, is a convicted felon who actually served time in federal prison.

The Bridgewater attorney was convicted on oxycodone distribution conspiracy charges two decades ago.  His subsequent career seems to have had no similar transgressions, according to the Herald report and the 48-year-old actually was decorated by the Navy during his time in the service. According to his web site, "he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for his exceptional performance as a team member of the Visit Board Search & Seizure (VBSS) team enforcing the safe and successful conduct of Marine interception operations during Operation Desert Fox in the Arabian Gulf, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and received several citations."

If elected, Murphy would be tasked with approving judges and considering pardon requests, among other things.

Other Democrats running include David Reservitz, Tamisha Civil, Muriel Kramer, and Hunter Cohen.

On the Republican side, Francis Crimmins Jr.,  a retired judge who also served as the head of the state’s Ballot Law Commission, is also campaigning for the office.

Democrat Robert Jubinville was elected to the position in 2022 but resigned shortly thereafter to take a better-paying position  as a Clerk-Magistrate. Since that resignation, the district has not been represented.
