On Saturday, June 8, 2024, at approximately 7:27 pm, the Franklin Police and Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at 543 East Central Street involving a sedan and a motorcycle. Upon arrival, according to the police news release, first responders quickly began life-saving measures on the motorcycle operator, a 57-year-old Franklin resident, later identified by the DA's office as Franklin resident Thomas Chandler.

The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Milford Hospital where they were later pronounced deceased. The operator of the sedan was transported to Milford Hospital and later released with no serious injuries. A family friend of the sedan operator said, "he was traumatized -- there was nothing he could do."

The crash remains under investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the Franklin Police Department. No charges are expected in this incident.

The location, directly in front of a property owned by Bruce Hunchard, is the vicinity of Hunchard's Curve, in old Franklin lore, a place with more than its share of crashes.
