Fallen Heroes

On Friday, local veterans honored the life and sacrifice of First Lieutenant Edward A. Kelly, U.S. Army. Born on in 1915, Kelly was an officer in the regular army, enlisting in 1934. He died in 1944 while serving in Hawaii and was interred in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in 1949.

Monday, local veterans will again be at the Veterans Memorial on the Common at 9 to honor Technical Sgt Baldo S. Lazzerini. Born in 1913, he enlisted just before Pearl Harbor and served in the Army Intelligence Service, serving as an interpreter for General Mark Clark. Lazzerini did in a vehicle accident just after the end of the war in Europe at the age of 32.

Interceptor Updates

Monday (6/24) - Friday (6/28) the construction crew will conduct test pits on Rt. 140 from Old West Central to Beaver Street, on Beaver Street from Rt. 140 to the Recreation Center and on Fisher Street. Between the hours of 7am - 4pm expect lane closures on Rt. 140 at the Grove Street intersection, Rt. 140, Beaver Street, and Fisher Street as this work progresses.

Starting Monday (6/24) thru Friday (6/28) between 7am to 5pm, the cleaning and lining of the existing Beaver Street Interceptor will be occurring on Cottage Street from Union to Saxon, and Fisher Street to Hayward Street and on Hayward Street as well. During this time by-pass pumping will be set up and should not cause any service disruptions.

At the Franklin Recreation Center, the construction of the new Beaver Street Interceptor Pump Station will continue this week. There is a new way in and out of the Recreation Center, please follow the posted signage. During times of drop off and pickup backup onto Beaver Street may occur.

Please help me understand why no town officials helped senior citizens or folks on fixed incomes with the override. If I sold my home to a family of five with three school age children it would cost approximately $51,000 dollars to educate them per year versus me staying in my home paying $6,000 per year in taxes.

Movies for a Buck?

The Regal Cinemas chain, which has six movie theaters in Massachusetts, including one in Bellingham, is bringing back its $1 family movies this summer. Regal’s Summer Movie Express promotion features 18 films, including “Despicable Me 3,” “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway,” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” and “PAW Patrol: The Movie.”

Coming Up 1

The Concerned Citizens of Norfolk are organizing a rally in the center of Norfolk, MA (at the Roundabout) on June 26, 2024, at 5:30 PM to protest the relocation of migrants to the Norfolk Prison Shelter at Bay State Correctional Center. The State has informed the town that 405 migrants will be arriving in the small town on Thursday and/or Friday.

Also on June 26 at 7 pm, the Town Council will consider further adjusting the FY25 budget, making cuts to municipal services to provide more money for the school budget. Expect a packed meeting.
