Armenian Picnic Held at Camp Haiastan
It was a lot of Armenia in a corner of Franklin yesterday, at Camp Haiastan, bordering Uncas Pond. Board Chair Sarine Adishian was pleased with the turnout and the weather was perfect for music, socializing and plenty of traditional foods.
Immigration, Inflation and the Economy
John Deaton, a native of Detroit, a U.S. Marine veteran, cancer survivor, father to three daughters, trial attorney, author and now US. Senate Candidate, joined the Armenian community in Franklin yesterday, looking for support in his quest to unseat Elizabeth Warren. Asked how he plans to do that and he quickly answered, 'on the issues of immigration, inflation, and the economy." Camp Haiastan Board Chair Sarine Adishian gave Deaton a tour of the facility during his visit to Franklin.
Best Cruiser
With the Karen Read trial in the rearview, the Mass. State Police want you to vote for them in the AAST Best Looking Cruiser Contest. Last year Massachusetts State Police was able to rank number 11 and was featured in the 2024 AAST Calendar. For this year, the top 13 states with the most votes will make the 2025 wall calendar and, of course, the top cruiser will be featured on the cover. Motorcycle Crash Saturday
According to a report from New England Fire News, there was a serious motorcycle crash near 147 Grove Street on Saturday, around 4:25 pm. The Franklin Fire and Police responded to the scene. An injured person with “leg trauma” was transported to UMass Worcester Trauma Center.
Register O’Donnell Signs for Guard Support
Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell recently signed the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve at a community outreach event held at Braintree American Legion Post 86. In a public statement regarding the signing, Christopher Dugre, who is the Massachusetts State Chair of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve said, “By meeting the Statement of Support criteria, Norfolk County Registry of Deeds will stand proudly with its Guard and Reserve employees, who continue to answer their nation’s call to defend our way of life.” The signing of the Statement of Support confirms that the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds joins a cadre of Fortune 500 companies, state and federal agencies, and thousands of America’s employers in demonstrating support for the Armed Forces.
A Year of Minutes in Just 25
A quick meeting of members of the former Davis Thayer Building Reuse Committee managed to approve an entire year’s worth of meeting minutes hastily put together for the occasion. All the minutes were approved unanimously by the six members present. The only change requested came from a non-member who pointed out that the names of the president and vice president of Dean College were spelled incorrectly.
Blackstone Joins West Nile Club
The Town of Blackstone and the Blackstone Board of Health report that the state Department of Public Health has confirmed that a collection of mosquitoes from a surveillance site in the Southeast quadrant of Blackstone (Privilege Section) has tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). The Mass DPH first announced the presence of WNV in mosquitoes in Massachusetts on July 2, 2024, when the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory confirmed the virus in samples collected in Quincy on June 25, 2024. WNV has also been detected in mosquitoes in Natick.
Franklin-based MIAA to Intro New Sports
In the latest proposal for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association for 2025-27, MIAA may officially recognize and sponsor four new sports: orienteering, cheerleading, girls flag football and Ultimate Frisbee. If approved, recognition would begin in the 2025-26 school year.
