A massive, 200,000 square foot, four-story mill building, more than a century old, was all but wiped out by a massive fire overnight Monday.
The fire, at a mostly-vacant mill at 20 Privilege Street, which started shortly after midnight Sunday, drew firefighters from departments in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Among those helping out were Pascoag Fire Department, Harrisville and Oakland Mapleville firefighters from Rhode Island, and Franklin, Mendon, and North Attleboro firefighters from Massachusetts.
By 9 am, the first was mostly out and the building had largely collapsed. The cause of the fire has not been determined. One report suggested chemicals may have been stored in the building.
