It's Library Card Sign Up Month in Our Towns -- and Beyond

Autobots, roll out...to the library!

It’s Library Card Sign-Up Month (LCSUM)! Held each September, LCSUM is an annual reminder that library cards empower individuals and communities by providing free access to technology, multimedia content, educational programming, and much more. A library card opens a world of learning for everyone and is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available.

This year, the American Library Association (ALA) has teamed up with Hasbro and Skybound Entertainment's TRANSFORMERS franchise to encourage people everywhere to roll out to their library and sign up for a library card.

Whether you’re upgrading your skills, scouting for knowledge and information, or connecting with other heroic readers, a library card is your key to an arsenal of resources. Spark your creativity as a builder or programmer by tinkering in your library’s makerspace; mine the library’s stacks and databases for new stories and adventures; kickstart your critical thinking skills to defeat the Decepticons of misinformation lurking online. Hitting the road? Use your library card to fuel your mind with books, ebooks, audiobooks, and museum passes.

If you love libraries—and the access they provide to rich and diverse worlds—we invite you to join the festivities and help spread the word about the value of a library card. Here are a few ways you can participate:

Visit your Franklin or Medway Library

Visit your library in-person or online to see what's new and take part in the celebration. Libraries across the country are participating. Information on getting a Franklin Public Library card is available here. Information on getting a Medway Public Library card is here.

Spread the word

Try something new

We’re challenging everyone to try something new at their library and share the experience with us. Whether it’s exploring a new service, picking up a fresh skill, or even getting your very first library card, we want to hear about it. And because we’re all about having fun, everyone who participates will be entered into a random drawing for some great prizes.

Encourage others to get a library card

You have a library card, of course. But does your best friend? Neighbor? Cousin? Secret crush? There’s no time like to present to persuade those people in your life to register for a library card. Remind them that signing up for a library card is free and easy, and that libraries are still better than the internet.

Put up a library-themed yard sign

Let your neighbors know you’re a proud library card holder with two awesome yard signs from the American Library Association.
