In a live Fox
News segment that aired early Wednesday afternoon, Franklin
mother-of-four, Dashe Videira and a recent candidate for state senate, was interviewed by host, Molly Line,
regarding the challenges posed by the state’s migrant influx as
well as the contrasting approaches of the new administration coming
into Washington and the current administration in Massachusetts on immigration matters.
As a “scene
setter” Line first offered up some statistics on the influx of
foreign gang members to Massachusetts and then cited the 18 migrant
men charged with various sex crimes “including child rape,” some
of whom had “detainers” but were released back into the
community, forcing ICE to then track them down, according to Line.
Line asked Videira for her reaction to that situation.
Videira, said she
was very concerned and, spoke about the situation both in Franklin
and across the state. “Leading with a compassionate heart,”
Videira commented about what she felt was happening within migrant shelters in
the state in terms of the safety of the families staying there. She
also mentioned costs to taxpayers and security concerns and
criticized the lack of transparency at both the state and local
level. Videira said she urges others in the Commonwealth to get
involved and “ask good questions.”
“This impacts
police, fire, ambulance, and schools,” she said, and contributes to
a situation where towns like Franklin are being asked to consider tax
overrides.
Line then played
clips of statements made by Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, in which both committed to not working with
Federal authorities to enforce immigration laws.
Then she asked
Videira, ‘Are you concerned, that by being so public, that criminal
elements might come to Massachusetts seeking sanctuary, that there
could be a flood’?
“Absolutely,”
Videira responded.
