Erich Richard Haberman
A software architect, he was a constant presence at his children’s activities.
Erich Richard Haberman, 46, of Medway, passed away surrounded by his family following a courageous two-month battle with cancer in late November 2024. Born in Methuen, he was the son of Victoria H. Venuti of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Richard W. Haberman and his wife, Valerie, of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was the husband of 12 years to Nicole (Champagne) Haberman of Medway and father to his beloved children, Charlotte and Noah.
Formerly of Raymond and Dover New Hampshire, Erich has been a Medway resident since 2012. Erich was a highly decorated top graduate of Raymond High School, and he earned his bachelor’s degree from Keene State College and his master’s degree from Boston University. Erich loved his long career in technology, first as a software engineer and later as a software architect. For ten years Erich worked for biotechnology firm Foundation Medicine, where his software coding and leadership helped streamline advances in cancer research and testing. Most recently, he was proudly pioneering artificial intelligence and machine learning projects for Nike.
An exceptionally proud father, every moment of Erich’s spare time was spent engaged with his two “miracle babies” and his wife. Family moments shared on frequent hikes around Massachusetts, during summer Cape Cod adventures, and on treasured Disney vacations were incredibly special to Erich. A constant presence at his children’s activities, Erich shared his time and talents as an assistant coach for Medway Youth Baseball and Soccer and was a devoted gymnastics, swim team, and Boy Scout and Girl Scout parent.
Erich brought his easy brilliance and quick wit to every interaction with his many friends, colleagues, and extended family. He never left a conversation without interjecting a well-timed quip to make everyone smile, and his enormous capacity for love and kindness was evident in his every interaction. Erich shared deep bonds with his parents, his sister Melissa, and brother Gregory, and he treasured special occasions with his many nieces and nephews. An avid fan of all Boston sports teams, his heart was particularly devoted to the Boston Bruins. Erich was heavily involved with CrossFit Tri-County in Bellingham, where he loved working out and pushing himself to new limits. Erich was an animal lover who found profound delight in the companionship of his Golden Retriever, Daisy, and his two Siamese cats, Violet and Pearl. His love for his family, friends, and pets was a testament to the warmth and kindness he radiated.
In addition to his wife, Erich is survived by two children, Charlotte and Noah Haberman of Medway; his siblings, Gregory Hill and partner Jamie of Madbury, NH, and Melissa Haberman and partner Shawn of Manchester, NH; his in-laws, Dennis and Karen Champagne of Orleans, MA, Shirley Picard and Andrew Mastalerz of Woonsocket, RI, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Geoffrey Champagne and his wife, Micaela, of Forestdale, MA, Alyssa Champagne and her husband, Joseph Bell, of Los Angeles, CA, and Andrew Champagne and his wife, Gwen, of Katy, TX. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 1st from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. A funeral service will take place on Monday, December 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Sherborn. Services will also be live-streamed from UU Sherborn and can be viewed at this link: https://uuac.org/streaming-service/. Private Interment will be held. While flowers are welcomed, donations may also be made to Donate Life.
