Monday's Survey Has Closed and Here are the Results
They survey focused on a proposed housing development for 444 East Central Street in Franklin.
Under state law, a developer seeking to build affordable housing units as defined by the state, can force a town to accept its proposal IF the town has less than 10 percent affordable housing stock. To try to head off threatened 40B developments, the Town of Franklin devised a "friendly" 40B process that, in theory, lets the town have more say over the process and stay 'in the driver's seat.' For a year or more a developer of the property at 444 East Central Street has been moving forward with a proposal for 264 apartments. Many residents have objected while some have strongly supported the proposal.
Our Survey asked whether people supported or opposed the project and also delved into the values behind those answers.
A final question also asked about perceptions of Franklin Town Government.
The overall responses were similar to the much longer Police Station survey but higher, likely because the survey required much less time to complete. Survey responses began early in the morning on Monday when first posted, with about two-thirds of total responses within the first four hours. Results maintained a consistent ratio during the time results were being accepted.
