Measles Update

According to the Mass. Department of Public Health, an out-of-state visitor who traveled to Boston and Westborough this month had the measles. It warned Bay Staters about potential exposure risks. (Above, a Wikipedia images compares the appearance of measles in children with different skin tones.)

Pond St. Fire

Monday, at 7:30 am the Metacomet Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a possible structure fire at 1130 Pond Street. Franklin Fire units arrived and found a fire in the basement of a residential home. The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of the first arriving unit. The home was unoccupied when units arrived. The Franklin Fire Department was assisted by the Bellingham, Medway, Milford, Plainville, and Wrentham Fire Departments. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Franklin Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Foxboro Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident.

'Entrapment' Reported in Medical Emergency

On Tuesday afternoon, a series of alerts from New England Fire News (filed by volunteers who monitor police and fire radio channels), reported an individual trapped under a vehicle on Lost Horse Trail.  The reports indicated that the victim had no pulse and that extraction was proving difficult. A later inquiry to the deputy chief of the  Franklin Fire Department yielded a statement that units were dispatched for an incident involving a medical emergency at 16 Lost Horse Trail at 1:22pm. "Our Engine 2 and Battalion 1 responded. A mutual aid ambulance from Norfolk also responded as our ambulances were tied up on other calls. The Norfolk Fire Department ambulance transported to Milford Hospital. This is all the information I can provide at this time."

Scary Gun Incident in Medway Turned out to be False Alarm

On Tuesday, just before 11 AM near the Shaw's  a man reported having been threatened with a gun. This and another report of someone looking into homes, prompted a warning and safety protocols at nearby schools. However, the man making the original report, a native of Nebraska, was deemed to be having a mental health incident and was eventually transported for evaluation.

According to published sources, authorities
in Wrentham are warning pet owners to take precautions after coyotes
killed at least two dogs in separate incidents recently. In
a Facebook post, Wrentham police said both attacks occurred when dogs were
left unattended in yards during overnight or early morning hours. One
incident was reported near Thurston Street along the Foxboro line,
while the other happened in a neighborhood off Creek Street.

Pickleball Rejected in Fair Carmel-by-the-Sea

California's Carmel-by-the-Sea residents annoyed by the pop pop pop of pickleballs can finally breathe a sigh of relief.  Recently, the seaside town became the first California city to ban pickleball at public courts after years of resident complaints.
