FRANKLIN: Richard Apalakian

Richard Apalakian, 98, of Franklin, passed away peacefully at home on January 1, 2026. He was a resident at Magnolia Heights for almost eight years and was supported by his long-time friends Gail Mazzarelli and Christine Gruner. He was also supported by his faithful live-in caregivers Rita Boateng and Vivian Asante. The residents and staff at Magnolia in his later years enriched his life.

Richard was born on December 3, 1927, to the late Senekerim and Elizabeth (Zorzopian) Apalakian. He is predeceased by his two sisters Violet and Sara Apalakian with whom he lived in the family home in Franklin for many years.

Richard was educated in the Franklin school system and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball as a youth. He served in the U.S. Army stateside during the occupation of Germany and Japan.

After his military service, he attended Dean Junior College graduating in 1948 and then Tuft’s University completing his degree in electrical engineering in 1952. Richard enjoyed reminiscing about the time he spent living and working in San Diego as a technical representative for the Marine Corps.

His favorite pastime was watching and cheering on the Patriot’s.

A time of visitation and a memorial will be held at Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home at 33 Cottage Street in Franklin on Tuesday, January 6th. There is a visiting hour at 10am with a memorial service at 11am followed by the interment in the family lot at Union Street Cemetery.
