More than a century before Mark Twain dreamed up Huck Finn, Ben Franklin was living a childhood of adventure -- and adult responsibilities, including inventing the first "swim fins."
That childhood became a prelude to an equally remarkable and always entertaining autobiography that takes him through childhood and into the life of a hard-working runaway in Philadelphia, where he gradually rose to be one the most prominent and successful citizens.. Tackled late in Franklin's life it is remarkably short and always entertaining book, thus a perfect vehicle for a shared read-aloud experience, coming back to the Franklin Public Library after an absence of a few years on Thursday, January 15 from 9:30am-7:30pm…Everyone is welcome to read, listen, and comment on the life of our favorite Founding Father. For more information or to express a preference for a reading time, contact Alan Earls (alan.r.earls@gmail.com) and he will work to coordinate with the library.
Since it was first published, the book has come to be regarded as one of the most important ever written by an American. The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin also became the first full-length audiobook in history, when it was released in 1969.
