MILFORD, MA — A man in Bellingham has been charged after police said he made bomb threats to a hospital in Milford and Logan Airport on Tuesday morning.
Bellingham police received a 911 call reporting that a bomb was placed at Milford Regional Medical Center, at 14 Prospect St., shortly before 5 a.m. A similar threat was also reported at Boston Logan International Airport at around 6 a.m., officials said.
Following the report, Milford police and fire departments, along with Massachusetts State Police, responded to the hospital, which was placed on lockdown, and swept the property.
At around 7 a.m., a 42-year-old John Lee from Bellingham had been identified as the suspect in both bomb threats. The lockdown was lifted after the call was determined to be a swatting hoax.
Later in the morning, multiple agencies executed a search warrant at Lee's home in Bellingham, where he was taken into custody.
Lee also had three active warrants for his arrest, and had been previously charged in November for bomb threats made to the Encore Casino in Everett.
On Tuesday, he was charged with bomb/hijack threat with serious public alarm, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and warrant arrest.
“A large-scale response like this creates a massive disruption to the hospital that is critical to our region and instills fear among staff and patients receiving treatment,” said Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino.“These actions are so reckless and dangerous."
