Local luge standout Zachary “Zack” DiGregorio, 24, is once again headed to the Winter Olympics, representing the United States in the doubles luge competition at the Milano Cortina 2026 Games this February. DiGregorio, Medway’s first-ever Olympian, has carved out a remarkable career in a sport few in his hometown even knew existed a decade ago.
DiGregorio’s journey began almost by chance at age 10, when a family outing to a USA Luge Slider Search event in Carlisle, Massachusetts, sparked the interest that would define his athletic path. Scouts were impressed by his speed, strength and athleticism, and soon he was training at the Olympic facility in Lake Placid, New York.
After progressing through the junior ranks — including national titles and an international silver medal — DiGregorio shifted from singles to doubles luge in 2020 with partner Sean Hollander in response to pandemic disruptions. Their decision paid off: at just 20 years old, the duo earned their first Olympic berth in Beijing 2022, finishing 11th in doubles and seventh in the team relay — strong results for such a young team.
Since Beijing, DiGregorio has continued his ascent on the world stage. He and Hollander claimed historic victories on the World Cup circuit, including becoming the first U.S. men’s doubles team in nearly two decades to win a World Cup race. Off the ice, DiGregorio co-founded Champions 4 Changes, a nonprofit that connects elite athletes with diverse communities through inclusive fitness programming.
At Milano Cortina 2026, DiGregorio looks to build on his Olympic experience and hometown pride as he competes once again among the world’s fastest sliders.
