Students and Staff at Washington St. School in Franklin soup drive
The Weymouth Food Pantry and the Franklin Food Pantry are proud to announce the results of their Second Annual SOUPer Bowl, a friendly competition to tackle hunger in their communities. In a massive show of community spirit, Weymouth Food Pantry claimed the top spot this year, collecting an incredible 9,600 cans of soup. The Franklin Food Pantry also scored big with supporters donating 6,286 cans.
State Representative Jeff Roy (Franklin) and State Representative James Murphy (Weymouth) officially announced the winner at the Massachusetts State House, highlighting the importance of local action in the face of a rising crisis. In Massachusetts, 1 in 3 people are experiencing food insecurity. The SOUPer Bowl canned soup challenge helps stock the shelves in both pantries and combat the skyrocketing hunger in our communities.
"We love our collaboration with the Franklin Food Pantry, and we are especially proud of how both our communities rallied this year,” said Pam Denholm, Executive Director, Weymouth Food Pantry. “It has been a cold winter, and the response has been heartwarming. We are grateful for the caring communities surrounding both pantries supporting our mission.”
Despite the competitive spirit, the mission of the SOUPer Bowl has always been about collaboration.
“Congratulations to the Weymouth Food Pantry on their 2026 SOUPer Bowl victory!” said Tina Powderly, Executive Director of the Franklin Food Pantry. “We were proud to partner with Weymouth to raise awareness and inspire nearly 16,000 soup donations across our two communities. Weymouth takes home the trophy, but the real win is knowing that these donations will help so many of our neighbors enjoy a warm meal.”
While the SOUPer Bowl competition has concluded, the fight against food insecurity continues. Individuals and groups can still make a difference by:
Donating food
Donating funds
Organizing a food drive
Volunteering at a local food pantry
