William James Munro (Bill), 94 of West Yarmouth died peacefully on Sunday, April 12th at Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by his family.
A longtime resident of Medway, Bill was born in Natick in 1931 to Marion (Bayer) and William Munro, Sr. and was a 1949 graduate of Natick high school. Following high school, he attended Massachusetts Radio & Telegraph School in Boston where he graduated with an F.C.C. engineering license.
He was a Korean War veteran of the US Army proudly serving as staff sergeant in the 1st Cavalry Division in Japan.
Bill worked for Raytheon for 25 years as an Engineering Technical Manual Writer and Program Manager. He later became a consultant for Raytheon at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. After retiring from Raytheon, Bill was hired by Boston Edison as a Senior Engineer at the nuclear power plant for 8 years, completing 20 years working at the plant.
Bill was married for 49 years to his beloved wife Jean (Tyrrell) Munro who pre-deceased him in October 2004. He was a former member of the Park Street Baptist Church in Framingham and the First Congregational Church of Holliston.
He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed travelling. For many years he travelled to Fort Meyers to attend Red Sox spring training games. A two-sport letterman in his high school years, he stayed active in retirement, spending time playing horseshoes and bowling in the South Yarmouth Senior League.
Bill is survived by his two children Ronald Munro of Glen NH and his daughter Karen Halloran of Medway and their spouses Kelly Munro and Ken Halloran.
Affectionately known as “Pa,” he cherished time with his five grandchildren, who loved him dearly: Sara (Munro) Maloney and her husband Nick, Ronnie Munro and his wife Lauren, Patrick Halloran and his wife Brittany, Scott Halloran, and Jake Halloran and his wife Kenzie.
He was fortunate to have a step-granddaughter, Jean Uttero, and was blessed with two great-grandsons, Tyler Maloney and Brady Halloran, who brought him great joy.
He is also survived by his niece Janet Anderson and her husband Bill, Karen Hodgson, grand-nieces, a grand-nephew and great-grand nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sister Dorothy Hodgson and her husband Al and his nephew John Hodgson.
A visitation will be held at the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home (ginleyfuneralhomes.com) in Medway on Thursday, April 16 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm followed by a funeral service at the First Congregational Church of Holliston at 1:00 pm.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Medway.
