Making the Declaration of Independence Very Real
State Rep Jeff Roy delivered a hand-printed copy of the Declaration of Independence to the Town of Franklin to kickoff the first night of July 4 Festival activities, Wednesday evening, July 1. Roy delivered brief remarks and explained how the Printing Museum in Haverhill used thousands of pieces of movable type, similar to what was used in the 18th century, and also created reformulated, historically accurate inks. Shown above, Roy, Town Clerk Nancy Danello, Councillor Jane Callaway-Tripp, Councillor Mike LeBlanc, Councillor Max Morrongiello, and Council Chair, Robert Dellorco.
Speaking of the Declaration....
Volunteers will read it out loud on the Common at 10 am on Saturday, July 4. Later in the day at 2:50 pm, the bell of Franklin's Federated Church, adjacent to the Common, will toll 13 times at 2:50 pm, along with bells all across the country as part of a national salute to the nation's 250th.
