Edward Powers of Franklin, MA passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer, on August 15, 2026 at 53 years old.
Ed spent his teen years in Medfield, MA where he met his wife, Dawn. Ed distinguished himself with service to his country by enlisting in the United Stated Army Reserves and was deployed in December 2002 and finally returned home in August 2004 to fight in the Iraq War under Operation Iraqi Freedom in the 94th MP Company. When he returned, he pursued his dream and became a Massachusetts State Trooper and graduated in 2005 with the 77th RTT. Ed remained on active-duty until the end and was proud to serve his nation.
Ed played hockey in his youth and was a diehard fan of the Boston Bruins. When not watching the Bruins, you could find Ed on his Harley Davidson on a beautiful day getting lost on the backroads. Ed was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed life on the open road.
He is survived by his beloved high school sweetheart, Dawn Marie Powers (McCarthy) and their sons Greyson Alexander Powers and Raymond Orion Powers. He also leaves his parents, Edward T. and Cheryl A. (Cookerly) Powers and his sisters, Juli (Powers) Dillon and husband Tim Dillon, and Tina Powers and husband Jeffrey Bickford. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mary Ann McCarthy. Ed also leaves his nieces and nephews Melissa Danza, husband David, and their son Owen, as well as Blake Dillon, Charlotte Bickford, and Jocelyn Bickford. Ed also leaves behind his multiple pets that he loved and cherished.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2026, 10:00 AM at Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street, Medfield, MA 02052, followed immediately by burial at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield. Visiting hours will be Thursday, August 20, 2026, 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
