New England Fire news sent out at an alert at 11:38 AM regarding a report of a  barricaded man at a Pleasant Street  home between Queen and Hillside. With police and other responders busy with that, another report came through New England Fire News of a serious accident involving a pedestrian in front of the library.

Shortly thereafter, dispatch stated in open air communication that the injured pedestrian was female, reportedly bleeding from the hip but conscious and breathing normally.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Street and several other roads in the vicinity were closed off and the MetroLEC (Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council) was contacted and quickly provided numerous heavily armed SWAT members and a mobile command center.

Two people were transported from the Main St accident to Milford Hospital and the two vehicles involved were cleared.

At the time of the Pleasant Street incident, Rev. Brian Manning of the St. Mary's parish confirmed that he had been asked to make the St. Mary's School building available for evacuees and for a time, he remained on scene at the building.

Authorities repeatedly indicated that no  personnel would be allowed to speak to the  news media, including the two television teams that appeared,  and all were kept at bay. But, a press conference was promised at the Police Department following the conclusion of the incident around 3 PM. In fact, after being told that there "might" be a press conference, and that interested parties should wait in the parking lot, after 3;30 PM it was stated that there `probably wouldn't' be a press conference and any information would be provided through the the  social media company,  Facebook.

A statement from the Franklin PD Facebook page, which appears to have been posted just after 3pm states:

This morning, on February 12, 2022, at approximately 10:52 am, the Metacomet Emergency Communications Center (MECC) received a 911 call for a report of a male making suicidal statements at a residence on Pleasant Street in Franklin. Officers determined the male made suicidal statements to his family and threatened to harm himself with a firearm. The man did have access to firearms. There were no threats made to the man’s family.

The man’s family was evacuated from the residence and officers established a perimeter outside the residence and attempted to contact the man. Alongside the Franklin Police Department, the Franklin Fire Department, and assets from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (MetroLEC), quickly responded to assist the incident. Assets from MetroLec include the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and MetroSwat. MetroLec units established their perimeter and continued to try and contact the man. Shortly before 3:00 pm, MetroLec Units were able to get the man to leave his residence voluntarily and peacefully. No force was used. He was evaluated by the Franklin Fire Department and was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. Please continue to avoid the area for the time being. We expect the Pleasant Street area to be open soon. Thank you to all our mutual aid partners who assisted with this incident.

During the course of the incident at least 5 heavily armed SWAT team members were seen in the vicinity of Pleasant Street along with police vehicles and canine units from as far away as Hingham and Plymouth. One or two drones appeared to have been in use as well. Ambulances were kept in a staging area near Fales Street until called to transport the barricaded person to the hospital.
