The long running Academy always sells out opening night in Braintree, MA. This summer the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office is offering an Academy for Norfolk County youth aged 10 to 14 years old based at the Parmenter School in Franklin from July 5th to August 19th. The Academy seeks to develop:

  • Decision making skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Communication skills
  • Goal-setting skills
  • Public Safety classes such as fire safety, K9s in law enforcement, etc.

All in an environment of fun and challenge.

Each child may choose one week to attend. *For a complete description of the academy see below.

*The Youth Leadership Academy is more than a recreational camp for kids. It is designed to help youths aged 10 to 14 develop the crucial skills needed in the modern world. Participants in the academy learn to overcome challenges and then reflect on what they learned and the skills they needed for those challenges. This helps children set goals and come up with strategies on how to achieve these goals. The Academy features a day on at Tree Top Adventures in Canton, MA which offers a more personal challenge and involves climbs of up to 40 feet in the air while wearing safety equipment. Participants are never forced to climb. Everything is presented as Challenge-By-Choice, which means the participants choose their own goal and push themselves to get there, which is a great way to improve self-confidence and personal goal-setting and ambition.

This is not a boot-camp style experience. We believe children of this age learn best when challenged in a fun and supportive atmosphere. The staff have to have completed at least a year of college, and have an interest in working with kids.
