Dean Students Return to Campus

The 1200 or so students that comprise the student body of Dean College are back. Already the cross-walk light cycles on West Central and Main have grown more frequent. Contention between students and residents for parking in certain neighborhoods is likely to also reappear.

Monday, September 5th was move-in day for new students, transfer students and a select group of assigned returning students. Tuesday, September 6th, was move-in for returning students. And of course a small number of commuter students will also be returning.

A Dean College blog queried veterans, the students that are now orientation leaders, regarding what students should be sure to pack...and the answers are entertaining:

  • · “If you get homesick easily, something to remind you of home, whether that be pictures or an activity you’ve done with someone you love. Bring that!”
  • · “Fans. Like two fans!”
  • · “It’s really basic, but a fan. I use my fan every single night, even if it’s just for white noise. It is so crucial to have a fan.”
  • · “A planner. It’s really simple, but having a planner for me, especially freshman year, helped me stay on time, organized, and helped with time management.”
  • · “A laundry bag instead of a laundry bin!”
  • · “Nutella. I think everyone is saying peanut butter, but I think Nutella is on the rise. Bring some Nutella – it’ll save your life.”

Good Choice.
