The regular Elks donations to support local veterans are a feature of life in Franklin, and at Wednesday night's Town Council, they did not disappoint.
First up, the Council heard from members of the Franklin Elks Riders, motorcycle riders who also raise funds for charities. In this case, the Riders donated $1,000 to the Franklin veterans fund. Then, armed with cumulative earnings from bingo events held at the Elks, Elks leader Mark Ellis came forward with a check for $10,000 for the same purpose.
The donations prompted a round of applause from the town leaders and attendees and a formal statement of appreciation from Veterans Services Officer Shannon Nisbett.
Council Chair Tom Mercer, himself a "life member" of the organization, expressed further appreciation on behalf of the town.
