FRC team 2079 ALARM Robotics from Franklin is a non-profit community robotics team, that is 100% volunteer driven. The group has been doing a couple of robotics events at the Franklin Public Library abd conducted a robotics showcase in the summer and recently we conducted a robo-racer workshop.
Next up the group is set to host a Hackathon(coding competition) called Alarm-a-thon on October 21st from 11:30am-4:30pm at Franklin Public Library. Specifically it is a Scratch Hackathon. Scratch is a visual programming language designed and developed by MIT Media Labs. Many students are familiar with Scratch as it is taught in 'Girls who Code' clubs, STEM clubs in schools and many kids learn it as their first step to programming.

ALARM Robotics is conducting a Scratch Hackathon on Saturday, 10/21, 11:30am-4:30pm, at Franklin Public Library. Registration is now open at https://www.eventkeeper.com/code/ekform.cfm?curOrg=FRANKLIN&curID=666554
It is for grades 3rd-8th, it will be judged in 2 categories: elementary -3rd-5th and middle school 6th-8th. Teams will present projects to a panel of judges at the end of the day. The top 3 teams in each category will win awards. All participants will get goody bags. The event is completely free of cost to participants, but registration is required.
The event is from 11:30-4:30pm. Students can bring their own laptop(and charger) to compete. Students will be teamed up in groups of 2-3. You can decide your own team or they will assign you a team. Individual projects are not allowed. Theme will be announced on the day of the Hackathon. Snacks will be provided. You don't need to be an expert in Scratch to participate! Beginners are welcome, there will be mentors to help you debug your project and help you stay on track.
