With the preliminary acts in the biennial Franklin Town Election coming up soon -- nomination papers will be available starting on Monday, Aug. 4, through Sept. 15, 2025 at the Town Clerk’s Office -- it seemed like a good time to find out how many incumbents plan to run again.
So, Saturday, we emailed each town councilor and school committee member the following note:
Dear Members of the Town Council and School Committee,
Please pardon the group email. I am just asking SC and TC members about their current plans regarding this fall's election. (I will send a similar email to those in other elected roles soon). If you could respond to me directly by Tuesday midnight, I would appreciate it:
1) Are you currently planning to run again?--Yes,- NO- Not Sure (please specify which of those applies)(feel free to add further clarifications)
2) Are you considering a run for another other elected post in Franklin? Yes or No...
Thanks for your time and your continued dedication to the town!

The response was crickets, mostly. The only two responses received are below:
Town Councilor Brian
Chandler: The short answer is I am still discussing my options.
Town Councilor Debbie Pellegri (added Weds. Morning): I will be running, once again, for Town Council.
Town Councilor Chair Tom Mercer: (added Weds PM) Planning to run again, "The next two years will be critical for the town."
School Committee Chair Dave Callaghan: Yes, I intend to run again for School Committee. So long
as folks want me to serve, I'll keep trying to do the best I can for
our community.
