According to reports published by NBC 10 news, up to 1400 students were impacted when AI driven scoring of MCAS essay questions seems to have gone off the rails, with grading results that appear to be more or less Random.
According to the station, the problem was uncovered in at least one instance by a Lowell teacher, reviewing the grades before they were released to the public, finding at least one essay that should have received a high score earning instead, a zero.
Again according to NBC-10, those initiatlly affected included students in the Franklin and Medway School Districts as well as students at the Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School (BFCCPS).
Tests were regraded but what went wrong and what to do to prevent future incidents is still unclear.
