Rev. Dadgie (Marjorie) Scott passed away on Thursday, December 11, at the age of 91. Born in Cleveland, OH, on October 15, 1934, she was the daughter of Walter and Marjorie Steinkamp of Rochester, NY. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Rev. Michael Scott; her sister, Jody McCarthy of Pittsford, NY; her daughter, Rev. Barbara Keast (Craig) of Groton, MA, and her son James Driver (Caroline) of Hertfordshire, England. She was grandmother to four adoring grandchildren: Alexander, Meredith, Jeremy, and Rebecca Keast, and beloved aunt to several nieces. She was pre-deceased by her sister Barbara Boyce.
Dadgie graduated from Brighton High School in 1952. She graduated from Bucknell University in 1956 and was a leader in many college clubs and activities. After her first marriage and the birth of her son and daughter, she moved back to Rochester and continued her first career as a high school English teacher.
As her involvement in her local American Baptist Church and her faith grew, she enrolled in Colgate Rochester Divinity School and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1979. She was called to her first of many churches in Ontario, NY, and married the love of her life – a fellow pastor – in 1982. In 1985, she and Mike moved to Massachusetts, where over many years she served as a pastor of numerous congregations. In 2006, they moved to their dream log home in Royalston, where they retired.
Dadgie’s ministry was defined by empathy, kindness, and a profound commitment to pastoral care. She was known for her exceptional preaching and her ability to connect with people through both word and presence. Her congregants cherished her not only as a spiritual leader but also as a source of comfort and strength during times of need. Rev. Scott’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her ministry and the enduring love she shared with those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on December 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Memorial Congregational Church, 4 Memorial Street in Baldwinville, MA, Rev. Richard Jones officiating. The Franklin Federated Church shared the bulletin, below:
Hello FFC Family,
It is with great sadness that we write to inform you that our former pastor, Rev. Dadgie Scott died on Dec.11. She was 91 years old. She and her husband Mike were co pastors at FFC from 1994 to 1998. Dadgie then retired and Mike continued on as sole pastor through 2008. When Mike retired, they moved to their log cabin in Royalston, MA. Church remained an important part of their lives, and they continued to serve in many ways. When Dadgie was diagnosed with dementia, Mike lovingly cared for her. They maintained a fond connection with FFC, and just a few years ago attended the birthday celebration of Peggy Maxwell. Let us surround Mike with our prayers. Just three days after losing Dadgie, his beloved dog Charlie died of cancer.
