A former NICU nurse and foster mother of more than 20 children, Medway's Shelly Sepulveda is checking off her bucket list while battling stage 3 ovarian cancer. Diagnosed in 2024, she has been hospitalized nine times this past year and has relied on oxygen since October. Facing a potentialy limited timeline, Shelly says the illness has sharpened her focus on what matters most.
According to a Boston 25 story, one of her dreams was to attend a Celtics–Lakers game, but a hospital stay kept her home. In her place, her son Samuel and his girlfriend, Emma attended and held a sign picked up on the Jumbotron cheering her on. Watching from home, Shelly was deeply moved. The Celtics later surprised her with a team-signed basketball.
Shelly has also managed to visit the Grand Ole Opry and hopes to attend Celtics and Patriots games, travel to Italy, and spend time with her children. A GoFundMe has been created to support her family.
