The Franklin Fire Department has strengthened its emergency response capabilities with the addition of new 2025 model ambulance and the restoration of its third ambulance to full-time service.
The department recently took delivery of a new 2025 Ford F-550/Horton 4x4 Type I ambulances, delivered Dec. 3, 2025. The modern vehicles are equipped with advanced safety and infection-control technology such as AeroClave decontamination systems, UV lighting, ActiveTech in-duct air filtration, and a “Black-Out” trim package. Officials say the upgrades are designed to enhance safety for both patients and first responders.
The fleet expansion comes after the Franklin Town Council voted in August 2025 to restore Ambulance 3 to full-time rotation. The move reversed an earlier decision to reduce service following budget constraints tied to a failed tax override.
Ambulance 3 had been a 2021 Ford F-550/Horton 4x4 unit. The newly delivered 2025 model will augment the department’s existing fleet, improving reliability and ensuring consistent emergency medical coverage for the community.
The latest ambulance marks the first new vehicle delivered under recently appointed Fire Chief Charles Allen. Department officials also recognized retired Chief James McLaughlin for initiating the procurement process, as well as the firefighters and staff involved in bringing the new units into service.
Town officials said the investment reflects Franklin’s commitment to maintaining high-quality emergency medical response and modernizing critical public safety equipment.
