Above, dramatic WCVB video shows effort to rescue worker trapped under truck.

For hours Friday, blocked roads and detours told a story: somewhere in Medway, something had gone terribly wrong.

That something, according to Police Chief WIlliam Kingsbury, was  a motor vehicle crash involving a postal delivery vehicle and a pick-up truck. Medway Police and Fire responded to 30 Main Street Friday morning to find a scene of chaos.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a postal worker, while on her delivery route, was struck by a pick-up truck, causing the postal truck to roll over. The operator of the postal truck was ejected and found trapped beneath the vehicle upon the arrival of responding officers.  At that point, according to a WCVB report, bystanders had already tried unsuccessfully to lift the vehicle off of the victiim.

According to police, speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. Fire and EMS personnel from Medway and Millis worked to stabilize the vehicle and successfully extricated the victim. The postal worker was transported by LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with what appeared to be serious injuries.

The operator of the pick-up truck was also transported by ground ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center for evaluation. Members of the U.S. Postal Service responded to take custody of the mail and conduct their own investigation. The crash remains under investigation by members of the Medway Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision and Reconstruction Unit.
