Group Says Teachers Want Tax Cut, Too

Last week, the Mass Opportunity Alliance (MOA) released the results of a poll that shows Massachusetts teachers support tax relief. This data offers new insights into a key demographic as policymakers weigh a proposed law to lower the state income tax from 5% to 4%.,“The state teachers union is one of the loudest voices speaking out against an income tax cut,” said MOA spokesperson Colin Reed. “But the opinions of those labor leaders don’t always reflect the views and values of actual teachers. This data suggests an income tax cut would not only put more money immediately back in the pockets of individuals, but strengthen our world-class education system."  Key findings included that 78% of teachers support an income tax cut from 5% to 4%
and 79% believe a state income tax cut would help teachers.
