MEDWAY: Ada C. Corrado

Ada C. (Scammon) Corrado died on July 18th. She was the daughter of Burleigh Scammon and Ada C. (Smalley) Scammon.

Known as “Carol” to her friends and family, she was born in Norfolk, Massachusetts on August 3, 1923. She spent her childhood in Norfolk  and attended the local schools. She was graduated from Walpole High  School in June 1941.

World War II interrupted Carol’s studies at Hunter College in New  York; she volunteered for the U. S. Navy WAVES, where she served in  various postings. During that period, Carol met her future husband,  Alfonse (“Al”) Corrado, and they were married in Washington, D.C. on  August 24, 1944. 

They settled in Medway, Massachusetts, where they built three homes  (still standing) and two sons, also standing still: John, and his wife  Paula, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Gregorio, and his wife Rita, of Boston, Massachusetts.  

Carol leaves her grandson, Brian Corrado and his wife, Elizabeth, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and three great-grandchildren, Thomas,  Sophia, and Caroline. 

She loved and cherished several nieces and nephews, and her dear sister-in-law Alice (Corrado) Wright of Milford, Massachusetts.

Beginning in the 1960s and until 1984, Al and Carol operated  Colonial Cleaning Center in Holliston, Massachusetts, a nationally  renowned and award-winning drycleaning establishment that counted among  its clients the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C. and many of  Boston’s finest clothing stores.

Carol was the sister of the late Burleigh Eugene Scammon, Charlotte Sneddon, Margaret Cole, and Edythe (“Deedee”) Carlson. 

Her life was characterized by her devotion and fidelity to her husband, her children, and her Catholic faith.

She will be interred beside her late husband at the National

Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. He served with the 1st Marine  Division and saw combat on Guadalcanal during the Second World War. 

Calling will be on Wednesday, July 22 from 6-8 p.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway.
