Gerasimos “Jerry” Gianakis of Franklin, MA passed away on July 20, 2026, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Jerry was 79.
Jerry was born on March 14, 1947, in Worcester, MA. He was a loving and devoted husband, a very proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend and colleague.
Jerry was a voracious reader and consumed books like oxygen. He loved a glass of wine, a good cigar, and was known for his keen wit and sense of humor. He always kept everyone laughing and made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Jerry received a bachelor’s degree from Boston University, master’s degree from the University of South Florida, and went on to receive a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Florida State University. Jerry spent 25 years as a beloved College Professor specializing in public budgeting and finance while teaching at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL, and 16 years at Suffolk University in Boston, MA. retiring in 2017. He made lasting contributions to his academic field through numerous scholarly publications and extensive professional service.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Brisson Gianakis, his son Alexander, grandson Evander, brothers Nick and Angelo, and sisters Kathy and Ethel, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a time and location to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in honor to the Boston Red Sox Foundation.
