Medway Students Making a Difference for the `Unhoused'

Some local students are making a direct impact on a chronic social problems through Advocacy for the Unhoused (HAU).

On June 30, according to Madhav Saxena, Founder & President, HAU, they spent the day in Boston supporting people experiencing homelessness. They split into three teams: one handed out care packages directly to unhoused individuals, one worked a meal shift in the kitchen at Rosie's Place, and one delivered supplies to Rosie's Place and Pine Street Inn.

All told, the group brought $3,352.77 in supplies, funded entirely through community fundraising. "My favorite part was watching the volunteers realize the true impact of what we do whether they were dropping off supplies at real shelters or serving food to unhoused women at Rosie's Place."

HAU is a student-led 501(c)(3) that started as a club at Hopkinton High and now runs in four towns Hopkinton, Westford, Holliston, and Medway with 56 volunteers. The Medway students who are active members and were involved in this effort, included Advaith Shivkumar, Siddarth Veerappan, Harshanth Balamurugan,
and Seyon Shankar.
