John Andrew Manzo, Jr., 97, of Franklin and formerly a 42-year resident of Northborough, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Lois Claire (Puhlhorn) Manzo with whom he enjoyed over 60 years of marriage.
He was born on October 4, 1927, “upstairs” in his parents' home in Hoboken, NJ. John graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering. His first professional job was with Alcoa Aluminum Corporation where he knocked Lois over on a stairway where they “fell for each other” marrying in June of 1951. John’s career eventually brought them to Northborough in 1970 when John accepted a position at Tuft’s New England Medical Center Hospital in Boston retiring from there after 27 years.
Always smiling and often referred to as Johnny and Big John, he was loved and admired by all who knew him. He enjoyed skirmishing with his son and grandson in the 34th Virginia Cavalry, winters in Florida, morning coffee overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee, vacations to Pennsylvania Dutch country, his trip to Germany with family, his black lab, Susie, and most especially ice cream.
John is survived by his two children, Paul J. Manzo and his wife Julie of Hopkinton, and Claire M. Latino and her husband Wayne of Franklin. He also leaves his grandchildren, John C. Latino and his wife Kaitlyn of Derry, NH, Matt Latino of Franklin, Ashleigh Manzo of Dudley and Tom Manzo of Hopkinton as well as his great-grandchildren Charlie, Caragh, Emmie and Ellie.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation period at Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, on the Common, Shrewsbury Center, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 10:00-11:30am. Interment will be held at Howard Street Cemetery, 60 Howard Street, Northborough, following the visitation period.
