Medway Fire Department’s Change of Command Ceremony, honoring Chief Jeffrey Lynch as he retires after 13 years of service to the Town of Medway, and nearly 50 years in the fire service, took place from 10 am until a little after 11 at Medway Town Hall.
During the ceremony, Michael Fasolino was sworn in as the new Chief of the Fire Department, and Thomas Irwin was sworn in as Deputy Chief.
The ceremony was orchestrated by Town Manager Michael Boynton and included a fire service bag piper from Quincy who accompanied members of the department as they filed into place, some standing at attention for the duration. A ladder truck parked across the street held aloft a large American flag, a drone, flying above it all, remained in position during the whole event, and a talented local woman provided a powerful rendition of the Star Spangleld Banner.
Speakers included Selectboard Chair Glen Trindade who read a lengthy proclamation and declared Jeffry Lynch day, Senate President Karen Spilka spoke about the importance of the fire service and read a proclamation from her branch of state government. Medway's two state reps, Jeff Roy and Michael Soter, and an official from the Fire Chief's Association also offered remarks and recognitions.
