When the deadline passed to formally get on the ballot for the biennial election on Nov. 4. the open seat for a four-year term on the Board of Health did not have a single candidate.
In recent days, that appears to have changed, according to Town Clerk Nancy Danello, who reports that Christine Mucciarone and Dr. Diane Daddario, both town natives with deep family roots, are each launching a write-in campaign.
We did find a statement posted on Facebook by Daddario but have not yet spotted anything from Mucciarone, nor were our attempts to reach her by phone successful. But when we do, we will certainly supply information about her candidacy.
For her part, Daddario posted the following:
Hello Franklin! My name is DIANE DADDARIO and I have recently been asked to become an official member of Franklin’s Board of Health.
I am doing this as a WRITE-IN candidate.
I have been working with the Franklin Board of Health since 2009 when I assisted in setting up and running the H1N1 Influenza vaccination clinic for our town. Since then, I worked with the town and our Franklin Fire Dept. personnel in setting up and running the COVID vaccine clinics.
I continue to help annually with the Flu vaccine clinics for adults and children.
For those of you who do not know me, I was born in Franklin to Marie and Jack Daddario. I attended St Mary’s Elementary School and, continuing in our public schools, graduated from Franklin High School in 1978.
I left Franklin to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor and to explore the world. I majored in Biomedical Engineering and have degrees from BU and Dartmouth College. After working a short time as a Biomedical Engineer, it was time to go to medical school. I did residencies in Internal and Emergency Medicine and had the opportunity to delve into international medicine when I traveled multiple times to underprivileged countries, mainly in Asia and the former Soviet Union, delivering much needed medical supplies and teaching medical personnel.
I have been an Emergency Medicine physician for 33 years.
We returned to Franklin in 2005 so Anna could enjoy growing up in my hometown surrounded by her large family.
Through the years, I am enjoying being a part of this community – volunteering at the schools, Girl Scouts, Franklin Food Pantry, etc.
My family, particularly my father, Jack Daddario, was dedicated to supporting this community and he passed that sentiment on to his children and I am honored to carry on his tradition.
I hope I can count on your support in the upcoming election on Nov. 4th!
Don’t forget to WRITE-IN: DIANE DADDARIO for Board of Health
Thank you!

Voters will need to write your name and address in the blank “write-in” space on their ballot. If you’re giving voters a sticker, make sure the sticker has your full name and address.
Voters will need to know how to write your name correctly, and where to write it on the ballot. If a voter misspells your name or address, the vote can still be counted, as long as the election worker can figure out the voter’s intent. If they write-in or stick on your information but don’t fill in the vote indicator, their vote can still be counted.
Make sure voters know what office you’re running for. If they write your name in for a different office, their vote will count for that office, instead of the one you’re running for.
You can’t hand out campaign materials within 150 feet of a polling location. This includes stickers. The polling place, the building that the polling place is in, the walls of the building, the building grounds, and 150 feet from the building’s entrance are all off limits.
